Bears animal facts

Cubs are known to moan and cry when separated from their mothers. Bears grieve deeply for others. Some species of Asiatic bear build nests in the trees. The warning signs of a bear not being happy include standing up tall and roaring.


It is said that you should make yourself appear as large as possible when a bear is in such a stance. Six out of eight species of bears are vulnerable or endangered.

There is very little information on some bears because researchers have a hard time finding them! Common characteristics of bears include large bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, shaggy hair, plantigrade paws with five nonretractile claws, and short tails. Polar bears, with distinctive white fur, are the largest bears. Adult male polar bears weigh 350–7kilograms (772–5lb) and measure 2. American black bears are found in Canada , Mexico and North America. They mostly eat grasses, herbs and fruit, but will sometimes eat other things, including fish.


The black bear’s coat has lots of layers of shaggy fur, which keeps it warm in cold winter. Solitary animals , black bears roam large territories , though they do not protect them from other bears. Males might wander a 15- to 80-square-mile home range.

Except for the carnivorous polar bear and the vegetarian giant panda, ursids are omnivorous, consuming many items that seem small for an animal of such large size.


Interesting facts about bears. With the teddy bear face, the eyes may be closer to the nose, the cheeks may be fuller, and the body may be more compact. Another way that one may refer to a Pom as a Teddy Bear has nothing to do with the facial structure at all. Rather, it is a nickname given to this breed when the coat is shaved down. One of our favourite black bear facts is that one adult is believed to have swum nine miles along the Gulf of Mexico. Black bear cubs take to the water easily and quickly. The dawn bear was the first bear. It lived more than million years ago. In the north, bears sleep in the winter, but they don’t hibernate. The giant panda has a large head for its body. There are only eight living species of bears and they can be found throughout most of the world.

Asiatic black bears have a distinctive, white, V-shaped patch on their chests. Brown bears are found in more places than any other bear species.


Many bears in the Northern Hemisphere hibernate when the weather is cold. Although grizzly bears are large animals, of their diet is comprised of berries, leaves and nuts.
