Camera pixel resolution

Resolution of digital images. The resolution of digital cameras can be described in many different ways. The term resolution is often considered equivalent to pixel count in digital imaging, though international standards in the digital camera field specify it should instead be called Number of Total Pixels in relation to image sensors, and as Number of Recorded Pixels.


Keep all this in mind when comparing cameras and thinking about differences in resolution. As you may already know, sensor resolution is far from being the most important camera feature and a lot of that has to do with the physical size of the camera sensor and its pixels. The amount of detail that the camera can capture is called the resolution , and it is measured in pixels.

The more pixels a camera has, the more detail it can capture and the larger pictures can be without becoming blurry or grainy. High-end consumer cameras can capture over million pixels. The following chart can be used as a guide to help you decide what resolution camera you should purchase.


The heavyweight camera uses 45. It’s able to capture nine frames per second with full resolution without any decline in image resolutions either. The main distinguishing factor between a more expensive digital SLR and a compact camera is that the former has a much greater digital sensor area.

Calculate sensor resolution : Example 1: My FOV is 100mm and my smallest feature is 1mm. Following the equation, the needed minimum sensor resolution is 2pixel. A camera with a resolution of 640x4will work because 2is less than the smallest dimension which is 480. Example 2: My FOV is 500mmX600mm and my smallest feature is 2mm.


It is important to note that the smaller the pixel , the higher the resolution will be on the same size sensor. Based on the above information, you can approximately tell if you are using a low, medium or high resolution camera by today’s standards. The camera ’s software must then calculate a full-color value for each pixel , but ultimately there’s always a bit of guesswork involved. If you wanted a genuine full-color measurement for each pixel in your final image, you’d need to drop the resolution to a quarter of the original.


The quality of a digital picture is largely dependent upon the number and size of the digital camera pixels contained in the image. The image resolution is simply the information about the pixel density of the image. Higher resolution images can be printed to larger sizes with less loss of image quality than low resolution images.
