How to install wheel studs

You could take the axle out, but that would be a lot of extra work. You could do things the old fashioned way, and save a lot of labor. Wheel studs are those threaded things that your lug nuts tighten onto and what keeps your wheels on.


Sometimes they get stripped. So here in this video, I install new wheel studs that are longer to compensate for the hub centric. Turn the hub over so that the seal end is facing you.

Put the new wheel studs onto the splined holes and use a hammer to knock them into place. Make sure that the wheel studs seat all the way down. If the bearings are in good condition, lubricate the larger bearing with gear. Step 2: Lubricate the bearings.


Place the remover around the head of the broken wheel stu behind the hub. Center the driving screw over the stud and tighten it with a ratchet until the stud pops out the back. Stop tightening when the head of the wheel stud sits flush with the back of the hub.


These wheel studs have an improved shoulder design and are used by many BMW enthusiasts.

Press-in wheel hubs have a threaded part and that prevents them from moving out of place. In order to install press-in wheel studs , you need to use mechanical or hydraulic press. Preferred wheel stud material.


When buying replacement wheel studs , the most important thing that you have to consider is the materials used. The Mustang had been missing this stud since it was purchased a year ago. This is done using a special swaging tool in a hydraulic press. Next, drive out the existing wheel studs with a hammer.

Finally, install the new wheel studs , I used Doorman, using this tool and an impact wrench until the new studs are seated against the hub. The total job took me about hours per wheel , taking my time and being careful. I tried to do this job originally with just a few washers.
