Index finger bones

A fractured or broken bone within the index finger will cause some form of pain or discomfort. Leading away from the palm, the three bones in the index finger are the proximal, middle and distal phalanx. In any one of these three bones , some parts of the bone are still held together after an incomplete fracture. Index : second finger of the han next to the thumb.

Second finger : middle finger of the hand.

Third finger : second finger from the outside of the hand. Fourth finger : small finger closest to the outside of the hand. Distal phalanx: bone at the end of a finger. Middle phalanx: small, middle bone of a finger. If a fracture or a break occurs close to a finger joint , pain can occur when using or pressing on your fingers.

Symptoms include joint pain, numbness , and limited mobility. The finger bones are known as phalanges (singular ~ phalanx). There are phalanges on each hand.

All the fingers have phalanges except the thumb which has phalanges. A dislocated finger is the result of one of the bones in the finger being pulled apart or sideways out of alignment. Finger dislocations usually occur when the finger is bent too far backward.

Although a common injury, finger dislocations that are not treated properly can result in chr. Finger movement is controlled by muscles in the forearms that pull on finger tendons. Finger bones are characterized by how near or far they are from the rest of the body. The bone closest to the palm is called the proximal phalanx.

The subsequent bone next to the proximal phalange is the middle phalanx. The final bone , which is smallest and furthest from the han is called the distal phalanx. Finger fractures may account for up to of all bone fractures. Because fingers are used for many everyday activities, they are at higher risk than other parts of the body for traumatic injury, including sports injuries, workplace injuries, and other accidents.

Bone metastases are frequently seen in patients with malignancies, but only 0. In , the metastasis is the first manifestation of a malignancy. These acrometastases have a poor prognoses with a median survival of months. Finger pain can be caused by disease or injury affecting any of the structures in the finger , including.

Symptoms and causes of finger pain include: Joint pain is a feature of joint inflammation that may occur in the joints of the finger bones.

This can sometimes be accompanied by redness, swelling, warmth of the joints, ot sore fingers. The phalanges are the bones that make up the fingers of the hand and the toes of the foot. If your finger joint is swollen, stiff, or painful you most likely have a form of arthritis in your fingers.

The joints in the hand are one of the primary targets of bone spurs, most commonly occurring in the finger joints and the wrist. Because the hands have less body fat, the bony growth in the joints is quite visible and easy to diagnose, often appearing as hard lumps as the bone spur tries to repair damage to the joint. What are the Causes of Bone Spur of Finger?

In fact, they are the most frequently injured part of the hand. Injuries may range from simple bruises or contusions to broken bones. In addition, injury to or dislocation of the knuckles, which are the joints formed by the bones of the fingers, are common with trauma to the hand.

A type of arthritis that debuts in the feet, hands, and wrist. Patients notice its development initially on the big toe and the knuckle on the index finger. It can spread but usually appears in these spots first. Generalized arthritis affects the hands often because of constant exercise.
