When children and teens have the influence of a caring adult, they are more likely to avoid risky behaviors and to focus on academics. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. Our vision is that all children can achieve success in life. A Big is matched with a Little ages 6-with the commitment to see each other two to four times per month for a couple hours. Matches spend time together in the local community and plan their own outings, based on activities they like to do, such as playing catch, reading books, or getting ice cream.

You and your Little Brother or Sister can share the kinds of activities you already like to do.

Together we envision a world where all youth achieve their full potential. Many kids who face adversity lack connection to school and community. We know helping children engage requires a team of caring adults.

I knew that I had found the perfect little sister. Sometimes, like with Beyond School Walls and High School Bigs programs , our staff are on-site whenever the matches meet to offer support and lead activities. Mentor-mentee pairs build their relationships through weekly online communication and monthly in-person meetings. This weekly connection with his Big Brother Eric gives Dallas a safe space to express himself and the confidence to try new things.

We create professionally supported one-to-one relationships between children facing adversity and trained and supervised volunteer role models. Caring adult mentors (Bigs) are matched with children between the ages of and (Littles) who are often facing adversity. Once a match has been made, Bigs and Littles spend time together out in the community doing activities that they both enjoy. When can I see my Little Brother or Sister ? How much money should I spend? What are some good ideas for outings or activities with my Little? Can I bring my spouse, a friend or family member on outings?

That’s what brought Leo to us! Like most 12-year-olds, Leo had a love for video games, but he also knew he wanted something more than “Call Of Duty” in his life. When he was matched with his Big Brother , Joe, the friendship that Leo was seeking began to blossom.

With every interaction and new experience their lives were enriched.

Mentors help kids build self-esteem and life skills. They promote positive values like courage, integrity, and responsibility. They act as an advocate and source of support.

Research shows the positive effect that our one-to-one mentoring programs have on a child’s life. We have programs in Berrien, Cass and Saint Joseph Counties. We have two programs that offer volunteers different levels of involvement and time commitment.
